Boobs, Television, the Internet and other Things I Don’t Get

by on September 24, 2008

I have no idea how my T.V. works or how the Internet works, or how radio works or ow a million other things actually work.  I am not in any way a scientist or an engineer or whoever figures these things out.  Let’s get basic…I don’t really understand electricity to be honest.  I feel a little more comfortable with basic telephones because I can see a wire – but I still don’t understand how that wire carries my voice!  For years I have wondered how the hell these things work and whoever had the creativity, energy and brilliance to figure them out.  These people are impressive.  They are REALLY smart.  When I talk on the phone I think it is amazing that it works.  I am shocked that my DVD recorder can record shows off satellites in the air.  I cannot believe that anyone figured this crap out.

Wow – I am such a silly person, having done nothing so impressive.  I used to think that everything I had done in my life was not necessarily simple, but I mean it was not earth shattering or anything.  Thinking about these amazing inventions makes me feel like a dumb ass!

This all changed when I was thinking yesterday about my boobs.  I had read that babies eat between 24 and 40 ounces of milk each day, depending on age, and I thought…where the hell does it come from?  It goes on my list of unfathomable things that I will never understand and cannot get my head around.  I am a small person with a baby and out of my c sized boobs (okay they are uncomfortably bigger right now – UGH!) comes 40 ounces of milk???? This is more than a litre and 1/3 of a gallon!  That is a lot of milk!  A lot of milk that stupefies me.  How do I make it?  I am sure there is some chemical process that I could understand…but no matter what I read or research, I will not be able to get my head around the amount that these gals produce.   With Sophia I was making so much extra milk that I produced almost 60 ounces, or half a gallon of milk, every day!

So while I am not smart enough to know how, at least now I am included along with millions of other mommies, in that list of people who have done unfathomable things, even if I did not exactly figure it out myself!  Yay me!

P.S. Am I alone in not understanding how all the daily crap I use actually works???

You aren’t alone, the sole reason I wanted to be an engineer was to get my head around all of the worlds mysteries. It really is an amazing thing.

Of course all of this baffles me as well. Along with some other things that are common knowledge to others ;)
