So we officially cancelled our big beach vacation for this winter due to the stinkin’ economy and I have been dreaming of beaches for MONTHS now. So after much whining and the terrible twos hitting Sophia, vacation is back on and even better. We have decided to use all of those Amex points and airline miles and go away…for the first time ever…sans kiddos! Yes, you heard me…first time no kids! I am overwhelmed at the thought.
I may freak out at leaving them as I will have to make sure Miles is weaned and that I trust my in laws with my kids but man, I think the thought of a cocktail in the morning and the beach and not having to build a sand castle or nurse a baby will make me okay with the whole situation.
Am I weird that I have never been away from my kids? Maybe this is why I am currently considering myself insane. I believe others consider me insane too but who knows??? Last night was the first night I left my husband to put the kids to bed by himself. I left at 7:20 for book club and was really nervous. He was too. Sophia is terribly attached to me these days and Miles is literally attached to me at 8 pm every night so it was a little traumatic. We made it…but when I got home at 10:20 Miles was crying and Sophia heard me the minute I walked up the stairs and said she had been waiting! Dear Lord did she really stay up that whole time? I will never know but it broke my heart!
I think I have some separation work to do before I hit the beach or I’ll be on a plane home from my lovely vacation!
Internet, have you left your kids yet? How did it go? Tip are welcome!!!

I am the Ringmaster of this circus. I have 3 small children who don't know what that means so I just say "Boss" and they get that. I am a mom who loves to write, build things, make things and love on my kids and my hubs. I am also in the midst of a love affair with social media. Always busy, usually laughing and never without words. Thus, Mommy Words.

So far we’ve taken our little munchkin on every vacation we’ve gone on (the few we’ve gone on since she was born). The only time she’s been away from us is the few times she’s done a sleepover at a friends house. I think it’s a good idea for you to do some ‘separation’ things between now and when you and your hubby fly off to the beach – get the kids accustomed to having someone else do the routine stuff with them (baths, bedtime, etc.) From what I have heard, that’s always a good thing to do so they aren’t freaking out when their mommy or daddy aren’t THE ones tucking them in at night!
For some reason some daddy’s just don’t have ‘the touch’ when it comes to getting the little ones down for the night – mostly because they don’t do it all that often. That’s probably why your little ones were not fast asleep when you got home from your book club…I know my hubby rarely is able to get our Little Princess down for the night ‘successfully’ – it boils down to certain ‘routines’…and we know kids are all about those routines! LOL!!
Stopping by from Ann’s VGNO!
You can do this… I’m going to ask my 11 year old about her experience when my Hubby and I went on our first extended vacation (she was 5) and left the girls with their Grandmother. (I’m going to ask her right now)…
OK, I’m back. She said she remembers being sad in the beginning, but she had fun after that.
Really!
It’s so important for the two of you.
I hope this helps.
Thanks so much for being a part of the Virtual GNO!!!
