15 Months of Miles

July 24, 2009

Baby Miles, you are 15 months old today.  It is unbelievable to me how wonderful you are and how much you have changed my life.  You are so much like me and your Daddy and even your big sister Sophia, but you are also a unique little man.  This will be the last time I write to you as my baby, although you should know I will always think of you as my baby in my heart, even when you are grown man.   By the time I write you another letter, you will be able to walk all by yourself, and people around you will think of you as a toddler, almost a little boy.  It is such an exciting time for you!  Here is a little Miles Movie to remember these months.

Miles, at 15 months old, you can crawl on your hands and feet faster than most toddlers can walk and you can take a lot of steps but it seems that you choose not to.  You can climb up everything in our house, no matter how tall.  I have found you on the kitchen table and the coffee table and at the top of the stairs and in the bathtub and standing on top an armchair.  The only summit you have not yet conquered in the house is the kitchen counters.  While I am afraid for you, I am so proud of how strong you are and how determined to overcome obstacles.  You are very creative in your climbing.  These skills will serve you well throughout your life.

Miles, you LOVE to hug!  Maybe you just want to be my snuggle bug a little longer and that is why you don’t walk.  You still cuddle more than your big sis Sophia ever did, and I cannot tell you how wonderful it is to have a child who wants to cuddle up with his mom.  Since we no longer have our night time feedings I am happy to snuggle with you as much as you want.  I miss our quiet times together.

Miles, you are super social and are going to have an easy time making friends.  I am so glad for this because I do not always have an easy time, and it is a skill I always wish I had.  It too will serve you well as you get older and you will have tons of fun.  Always surround yourself with people who care about you and who you care about and you will go far.  Also, always laugh a lot and just have fun.  It will make life immeasurably better.  You laugh hysterically now so I only remind you not to lose the skill.  Lots of grown-ups forget to see the humor in things.  While life may not always be as easy as it is now for you, laughter will always lighten your load.

Miles, you are a wonderful addition to our family and an awesome son for me and Daddy.  Sophia tells you all the time how much she loves you and you give her huge hugs!  You are a great little brother and a phenomenal playmate.  Even though you like to knock things over while Sophia likes to build things and you like to roll around when she wants you to walk with her, you guys will be best of friends!  I don’t know if you understand yet, but you are going to be a big brother!  I am sure you are going to be an amazing big brother.  We don’t know yet if you will have a little girl or a little boy but I know you will be awesome!  Always know that just as I love you as much as I love Sophia, I will also love you as much as this new baby.

Miles, each of my children will always hold a special place in my heart.  You are my first son and I will remember how you rub my cheeks when we sit together and how you would always rub my hair in your fingers when you were eating. I will remember your first smile and the first time you said mama.     I will remember your curls at the back of your neck.  These are just a few of the millions of things I will remember about you.

So Miles, this is the last letter to you as my baby.  You will be a little boy soon, and then a big boy and someday a man.  But you will always be my Baby Miles.

I love you.

Mom

geeez ! Tear jerker at the end there! Loved it though. OMG he has changed so much since I last saw him. Well done with your lil movie- I am working on Elijahs one year movie – with video clips and photos and MAN its difficult to keep it from getting too long. Yours was perfect!
Lijah man started walking this week, but still doesn’t say Mama or anything for that matter! Each in their own good time right? They are perfect just the way they are. The climbing part scares me for you too though! LOL
Thank you for sharing this precious moment in your lives with us!

Beautiful! I love to write to my children in journals too. You have a beautiful family!

What a cutie! Keep the journals because, trust me, your going to forget it if you don’t write it down. Every now and then we remember funny made-up words our kids used, like mowlawn (lawnmower) or outnoise (fart).

How cute are you for writing that? SO precious! He’ll really love to read that one day. That’s a heart melter, and I completely related because I have a little boy of my own! :)

Oh, I do this to! I’ve been writing letters to my son ever since he was a baby. As I write I often wonder what his thoughts will be – if he’ll be able to sense all the love I have for him.

Thanks for sharing such a wonderful letter. He is a very lucky little man.
