35 Weeks and Waiting

I Post This Becasue I Love You

The baby wait is nearing an end!  Here is my belly at 35 weeks (on Saturday) pregnant.  Yes, you can see the stretch marks that came AFTER my due date with my first gorgeous baby girl.    Seriously, I thought I had made it with none!

Anyhoo, I was told by my high risk OB that this lovely and yet unnamed lady will come between 37 and 38 weeks due to being in a frank breech position with low amniotic fluid levels and lack of fetal movement.

Frank Breech is not terrible and many women have successfully delivered this way.    A baby in frank breech position has her butt down (you know towards the va jay jay) and her legs and head are up.   Sometimes the arms and the chin are tucked.  My little one seems to have her arms up over her head, which is a little odd.

Breech

My OB will not deliver a breech baby vaginally voluntarily.  Yes, I have spoken to midwives and doulas but I have decided that I want to have a hospital birth and that I want to stick with my OB,who I like and who has delivered both of my babies.  I think I will be less scared if anything goes wrong with her there.  She has been very understanding of my fears and concerns and deep desire for a natural childbirth, if possible.  So, at 37 or 38 weeks, depending on the baby’s fetal movement between now and then and my fluid levels, she has agreed to attempt an External Cephalic Version.  We will only have 1 try at this because of my crappy fluid levels.  Therefore, I will be unable to have an unmedicated birth.

Basically, ECV’s are more successful with an epidural and since I will have to have a c-section anyway if this does not work, I am going to schedule the ECV and have the epidural and then the procedure to have the best chance of success.  The baby will be closely monitored and using ultrasound to see her position the OB will attempt to turn her my firmly massaging my abdomen while observing how she moves in the uterus and my amniotic fluid.  If we are successful my OB will administer pitocin and we will work towards as natural as possible vaginal delivery.   If not, I will be moved to surgery for the cesarean section.

I cry every day about this possibility, but I have been told that given my situation I have a 50/50 chance of success and that due to concern for the baby they are nearing the point where they would rather have her “out” than “in”.    So, I am doing my research and preparing for either possibility and a slightly early baby.  The only way they will let me go into natural labor is if my fluid levels return to normal and the baby turns and starts kicking in there like a normal little one.

If you have been patient, you will now be granted the funny pictures.  I make myself feel better by telling my self the baby is almost ready.  With all my kids I know my time is near when…

1.  I have gigantic pains in my va jay jay.  Yep – I have em.  They say her butt is dropping early.  GREAT!

2.  My spine feels like it is in the wrong place or is too big or too small or something.  Yup – alien spine is here!

3.  My Restless Leg Syndrome is so bad that I do not sleep.  Check – near insanity people!

4.  My belly button pops out like a turkey timer.  I have provided you with a close up.  This does not happen for everybody and for some it happens really early but all of mine have been in the last few weeks.  This just happened on Christmas!

Turkey Timer Out!

Turkey Timer Out!

 5.  Nesting Urges – Let’s just say I am the ultimate mama bird right now.  Knocking out projects left and right!

6.  I can no longer keep “it” groomed myself.  Physically impossible.  If you don’t know what I am talking about, good.  If you do, you totally get it!

6.  I can’t see my tootsies!  I will prove it.  Here is me, looking down.  I don’t have big feet but I am not that big anyway and in the past, I know I should start reading for baby when my little piggies disappear!  You can also see in the picture that her head is on the side with the moles.  Yep – that little extra luggage is her noggin.  SO not in the right place, huh?

Look Mom No Feet!

Look Mom No Feet!

See, the baby is almost ready and she WILL be okay, even if she is a little early.

A Quick Apology

I am now going to the OB at least once a week and sometimes twice given the weekly ultrasounds and NSTs so between that and the holidays and the fact that I have 2 little ones already who have no school this week I have been a very bad blogger and bloggy friend.  I am getting my act together but thank you for your support and your comments and all your love!  It has been very stressful and I am so lucky to have such a wonderful community to help me!

XOXO

Imagining your little girl with her feet and arms up as you describe reminds me of the emergency landing pamphlets in airline seats where people are jumping out of the plane onto the air slide like, “Wheeee!” with both legs and arms up in the air. So I would say your little girl is ready for her landing, whatever form it takes. :)

You’re a real trooper. Hang in there!

Please don’t apologize! I just have one active 15 month old and I am finding it impossible to have time to spend in bloggieland. You are doing an amazing job and I know everything is going to work out perfectly. Amidst the nesting and everything else you do, try to rest when you can.

Ha! I am not tiny. My husband is not supportive of belly pics and thinks I am crazy for posting them too so I have to take them myself with the timer. I am not an expert so you can’t see that overall I am a very small person but the belly is NOT! Thanks so much for the compliment though!

Knowing Brit personally for years, I can tell you that she is being modest. Brit is what we call petite, put in your pocket petite! :) You remind me of my sister-in-law, you can’t tell she’s pregnant until she turns around and then oops, babybelly coming.

Ahh Margie. I’m what they call short. And this prego belly hides the fact that I never actually got fully in shape after all our shenanigans in high school. It just got worse in college! You are a sweetie pie though and I am obviously fishing for compliments these days! And wishing for wine. And maybe a girls weekend with you post baby!

You’re doing great! I will be praying and thinking of you over the next couple of weeks.

BTW-first pregnancy #6 was taken care of with a full wax! second pregnancy- wild beasts ran out when delivery began! not sure how they got in there???

You soooo don’t have to apologize – I can’t believe how much you HAVE been able to blog considering the fact that you have two small children, are about to have a baby practically at any moment, and just got through the holidays on top of all that! You get a free pass, woman! ;)

I know that it’s stressful, but I’m sure everything will work out beautifully. And what IS up with the pain in the va jay jay? I had that with my daughter towards the end and it is excruciating!

So glad to read an update from you! I think it’s wonderful that your doc will even attempt the ECV. Will certainly be thinking of you and keeping my FX that it works so you don’t have to have a c/s. In the end you and ‘Frankie’ will be just fine! :) :)

You know the saying, “as long as she is healthy” – well, it is soooo true. With my first I wanted a non-medicated natural birth. I got an emergency c-section. It didn’t matter, she was healthy. Even if you go a couple of weeks early your little one should be healthy. I had one 4 weeks early and he came home with me the next day from the hospital. The 6 week early one had to stay, but is now 12 and you would never know he was so early. I do hope you get the labor and delivery you wish for though. Hugs.

Brittany,
I’m sending good thoughts your way. The most important thing is getting that baby out safely, even if the method is disappointing. All my best to you and that baby!

As for the signs you’re ready to deliver, I’m with you on that – those were the giveaways for both of my pregnancies! And you look totally awesome.

You are so small…and one stretchmark…grr.. I have millions..

Good luck with the birth but just be glad they can deliver her healthy, regardless of your method. Sure I would have liked a vaginal birth but seeing my girls washed it all away. [I know you know this, just adding my .02 cents.]

Awww… what a lovely and perfect little bump! I am sure your baby is all happy in there, waving her arms above her head :-)
Mine came through an emergency c-section, and it’s not as bad as some people tell you. The scare has almost disappeared (after 8 months), and I couldn’t love little L more if she had been born naturally.

Wishing you all the best of luck and a very happy new year for you and your family!

You look great for being 35 weeks. I’m 27 and feeling HUGE!!! Thanks for sharing your frustration with jay-jay pain, I didn’t experience it much with Little Miss A but this little girl is killing me, and she’s quite the kicker! Good luck with your last few weeks!! Prayer for a safe and healthy delivery, even if she has to “back that thang up” to get out ;)

I ended up having an emergency c-section with my first daughter. It wasn’t the birth that I’d wanted or planned for. But instead of focusing on that, I thought about how fortunate I am to be living in a time when c-section is an option. A hundred years ago, one or both of us wouldn’t have survived.

So if you feel frustrated that things aren’t going according to plan, just try to be grateful for the healthy little girl you will get to hold in your arms when all is said and done.

*hugs*

Thanks! I am choosing to have my birth in the hospital because I want all of what medicine has to offer. I am just a little frustrated that no OB in Charlotte will deliver a Frank Breech baby. Midwives will but I am not comfortable enough for that. Anyway, of course I will be SO grateful and I am praying that she is healhty. They are a little worried and that is why they are wanting to get things going early. Thanks for the encouragement and I ALWAYS love hugs!
