I Heart My House in the Spring

April 7, 2010

Azalea's in their 3 Weeks of Glory

The rest of the year I moan about how unattractive the azaleas are.  For the month of April, though, they make me smile every single day.  I heart hot pink flowers.

Rainbows of Flowers are Always Nice!

Our front garden is a work in progress, but every year we have more flowers and I am so proud of our work when the flowers start blooming!

My Antique Garden - These will All Bloom Soon!

My side garden is filled with old plants – many 40 plus years old.  They bloom in the late spring and summer but there are giant hydrangeas, a butterfly bush that turns a fabulous shade of purple, rose bushes and even some huge leafy beauties that the garden shops cannot identify.  I love the privacy these established plants provide and the green lush feel.

Secret Garden

I find the small path leading to our screened in porch enchanting.  It has different things blooming almost all year and is a small, special place.  Sophia and Miles love to play in this little garden, and I am excited to finish up the area at the end of the path this spring with some benches and a table.

We are so blessed to live in a home that shows us so much of nature’s splendor each year. I love how much I learn about plants and gardening and look forward to trying something new each spring when the frosts are over.   The gardens at this house can be difficult to maintain, but it feels good to take care of the old plants and find new beautiful things to add.  It is therapeutic to work in nature and hey – it doesn’t hurt in the baby weight battle either.

Happy Spring!

Wow – beautiful flowers! (and house and neighborhood!) I’m just so happy Spring is here. We have a tree that blooms the most beautiful pink flowers right outside our front door…I’m counting down the days until I see those buds!

I am so envious of your garden! Makes me want to run home and get in the dirt. I too have an azalea with pink blooms. Love how it makes the front of the house look, but for oh too short of a time. Beautiful pictures!

I am amazed at how beautiful your house and gardens are! Wow! Now THAT is a seriously beautiful yard! I’m incredibly jealous as we live in FL, our house faces North (so no sun for anything close to the house, which means we can grow plants, but no flowers…) and we have an ugly palm tree in our front yard that came with the house and we can’t figure out how to get rid of…

But anyhow – just gorgeous!

You have my dream house!!!! I love it! And I agree, I love my house the best in the spring (except for that 1/2 inch of pollen I just swept off of the porch!)!

Can I borrow those azaleas while I stage my house to sell? I’ll give them back when I’m done.

Ha! If we have to sell we are definitely waiting for March to list and if it does not sell in April we are screwed!

The old and beautiful ones can probably be attributed to God and not any green thumb on my part! I am proud of the little things I do – but the main goal is to keep the old stuff alive!

I love your flowers! We’ve been in our home for a year and I am hoping I can get out in our yard soon…if only I could garden like you. :)

I don’t really garden as much as keep these gorgeous old plants alive. I am pretty much 50/50 on the new things I plant. Hydrangeas from last year lived. Gardenias dies. Peonies are struggling but they might make it! It is fun though!

The pollen is killing us! It makes it so hard to enjoy the yard these days!

Thanks Heather! Usually the whole yard and front porch is covered in kids crap but there is so much pollen we had cleaned it all off to spray it down. I thought I had to take a picture while it looked like that!
