There are only a handful of blogs that I physically type in the fancy URL for every day and Theta Mom is one of those blogs.  Heather writes thoughtful posts about Motherhood that always inspire great comment conversation.  I always enjoy reading her posts.  She created a wonderful place for bloggers to meet and share our worlds called the Theta Mom Community.  Each week she features a blogger from TMC and this is my week!  That’s right – I am honored to say that I, little ol’ me, am this weeks featured blogger! 

If you are here from TMC, welcome!  I hope you enjoy spending a few minutes on my blog and want to be a part of Mommy Words!  I would love to see your smiling face over here again!  If you are a regular Mommy Words reader be sure to check out Heather and the Theta Mom Community!

So here is a tiny bit about me and a couple paths to some of the things I write about.  Welcome!

I am Brittany.  I have a fabulous husband, Ross.  We made 3 beautiful children and we named them Sophia (3), Miles (2) and Violet (4 months).  To put it simply, they rock and I write about them a lot.   I am an open book though, so I write about everything!

If you have a thing for newborns like I do, I blogged the day Violet was born.  Man I love me some babies!  Want to see her?  Click here for ridiculously cute totally new newborn fabulousness.

I love to laugh and if you do too you might just love me because I do silly things like try to turn my breech baby by sticking a flashlight down my pants.  I kid you not.  I blogged it here.

I have been through a lot with my family and I have started to record my journey on this blog.  Lots of laughter and lots of tears folks.  My sister made a very courageous choice as a mom.  This is one of my best posts and the hardest one I have ever written.  It is also the post that showed me what absolutelyphenomenal readers I have.  Grab your Kleenex for this one.

On a lighter note, I like tools a lot and I love to build things.  Sophia loved The Princess Castle I built for her 3rd birthday.  I love the Pottery Barn Knock Off Storage Bed I built to hold her toys!  I try to post tutorials when I finish a project so stay tuned!

Maggie darling – a.k.a. Magda at I’m Just Sayin’ gave me the Circle of Friends Award and I’m just saying I am shocked and so excited.  She is SUCH a better bloggy friend than I have been and I just want to hug her to death and when I see her I will.  Watch out Maggie.  I give fierce hugs to my friends.  She also sent me a picture of her in a bathing suit pregnant and I sent one back which I am thinking in mommy blogger world has to be like being blood sisters or something.  So THANK YOU MAGGIE!

So this award is great because a circle of friends is what blogging is all about!  I am supposed to share five things I like and then pass the award on.

Here Goes:

1.  Crushed Ice – I down at least 10 huge cups a day.  Hospital ice is the best.  Here I come Labor & Delivery.

2.  Power Tools – Hands down my favorite thing to buy (next to very expensive Temperley clothes which I cannot afford).  Building things is by far one of my favorite ways to spend my time.

3.  Alice Temperley Clothes - Sexy.  Gorgeous.  Chic.  All these things I want to be.  Seriously – beautiful clothes!

4.  Musical Theater – Singing the songs whether on stage or in the shower or in my car, is one of my favorite things to do.

5.  Relaxing with my hubby – It so rarely happens with the ages of our kids and his work and my projects and this pregnancy.  We sat on the couch for an hour today while the kids played in the back room and I was in heaven!

Kristi at The Brouse House awarded me the Beautiful Blogger Award.  Clearly I did not send her the pictures of a very pregnant me in a bathing suit ’cause it ain’t beautiful!  I am so flattered Kristi – Thank You!  She said she understood  if being pregnant and all, I did not have time to repost the award.  Um…hello..sweetheart…you called me beautiful – this baby is SO getting posted!  Just the award itself is so pretty!

One is supposed to accept the award and then reveal 7 things about yourself.  Here is where I get lazy.  I have been having contractions all day and I am losing focus so please forgive me.

6.  I devour romance novels.  This is in addition to a couple of “real” books every week ( I read A LOT) but  always have a good steamy novel for the bath.    It must be a historical romance and oftentimes there is a very sassy picture on the cover.  It takes me approximately 3 hours to read one and I gotta say – thems a good 3 hours.

7.  I think of myself as all indpendent and feminist and all but my husband told me the other day that he liked my hair long and guess what?  I am SO growing it out.  Hey man – I want him to think I am super sexy!

Here is the 2nd part of my laziness / inability to be a beautiful blogger at all tonight.  I am too uncomfortable right now to type much more with these contractions so I am not going to pass this award on tonight.  I just can’t find a comfortable place for the computer at the same time as my belly.  I need one of those hospital beds that are all adjustable!

The last 2 techie / bloggy things I absolutely have to do before the official start of my year included purging my email boxes and properly thanking all of the fabulous friends that gave me awards over the past month.  I have been very lax in both departments and this is the post in which I fix one of these two things.  Earlier today I purged the email – ruthlessly.  Man did it feel good.  It also felt good to move a whole host of blog tasks to the New Year and actually organize a timeline for them so I did not have to freak out about them.  This is not procrastination – it is genius!

What felt even better that my email purge was the realization that I have made so many fabulous friends through this blog!  Even better?  The whole idea that people actually read what I have to say and certain of these lovely people have publicly acknowledged their Mommy Words love with an award.  I am floored when I think about it. 

Thank you all so much for reading and commenting and being my friend.  It may sound silly but this blog has helped me through this pregnancy and helps me to be a better mom and allowed me to meet so many wonderful people.  Hopefully next year I will meet some of you face to face!  I can’t wait to keep reading and getting to know you!

Nancy at If Evolution Works is definitely one of my bloggy besties.  She seriously ROCKS!  She is a web designer and awesome blogger who is always there with a laugh, a smile and tons of advice when I tweet her!  Nancy gave me the I Love Your Blog Award and I just love it so much.

Naomi at Organic Motherhood with Cool Whip  rocks!  She gave me The Lovely Blog Award and she so deserved to get it!  She has so much love and so much humor and perspective on raising her 2 boys.

Existential Waitress gave me the Lemonade Stand Award and she is more than just a kick ass Blog Name.  She is an absolute sweetheart, loves all the same blogs that I do, lives in Las Vegas, and also appreciates sarcasm.  All of these traits make her rock and her blog is great too!

Sarah from The Stoller Ballet (seriously how cute and all I came up with was Mommy Words?) gave me the Lemonade Stand award too and I clearly at this point need to start selling some lemonade out on the stoop!  Thank You!  She is super funny too and has absolutely no sense of direction like me so of course, I heart her and her stroller dancing ways!

Debra from Maddy Brand also gave me the Lemonade Stand Award.  She has a new product called a ote Brush for cleaning bottles and other cans or jars while traveling that you should check out!

Mindi’s Part of Meblog is so cute and her family is just adorable.  She gave me the Heartfelt Blogger Award.  How awesome?  I try to share my feelings and this is just such a sweet recognition.   Mindi has had a tough road and she shares her laughter and her tears!  Thanks Mindi!  Her blog address as of Tuesday, January 5, will be here.  Give her new blog design a little love!

Momalom - Jen and Sarah are sisters and rock and their blog is awesome.  They tell it like it is and they have such great viewpoints.  Jen and Sarah both now have 3 kids as I will have so I read her posts with anticipation and fear and look for tips of course.  They also hosted a half drunk contest where you were challenged to write a daring post (even anonymously and they would publish it and man was that contest great.  I would love to get totally drunk with these chicas and moan celebrate life when you are outnumbered by your kids.  MWAH ladies!  And cheers!

Momisodes - I love her blog.  I love her humor.  I love her writing.  I love her stories and her perspective.  She is a great blogger and you will love reading her words.  And seeing her beautiful photos.  Taken with her new camera which I am SO jealous of.  Oh, and she is pregnant like me.  So I am really getting her right now.  You know I am in the groove.

Vodka Logic - Laura has Vodka in her URL.  I love her.  She writes funny poems and is able to rhyme on a regular basis.  She is impressive.  And she has older kids so I get to have  a sense of all the things I will get to do again one day.  I am hoping she will contribute to the Before I Had Kids posts with a look at what life can be like when these little ones are not only potty trained but fairly self sufficient.  I heart you Laura!  And I heart Vodka.  So of course you get an award!

I’m Just Sayin’…I can’t say much more than Magda is flippin’ hilarious and I absolutely adore her and her blog.  I mean she teels me I look skinny you know?  I’m just sayin’ I am 36 weeks pregnant and this chick makes me feel good about myself!  So head on over and have a laugh!

Finding Trinity- Michelle is so great both at blogging and being a blogging friend.  She is encouraging and funny and warm hearted and she is one smart lady with one cute little girl!

Loulou’s Views- Loulou is a super sweet and funny gal up in Canada raising two adorable little boys and blogging about the ups and downs and all that comes with it!  She is a fun one to follow so check her out!

The Artculate Ramblings of an Attorney-at-Mom - Caroline is a great writer and she tackles a lot of real topics that some days I am just too confused to even begin writing about.  I am working on this, of course.  Caroline has a beautiful little girl she calls Bitlet who is 9 months old.  She is a mom and a lawyer which is impressive and scary .  Kust kidding xoxo Caroline and Love your blog!

So go ahead and check out these great blogs.  I have now completed my 2009 list – just one hour before my 2010 will start.  I love to slip in under the wire.   It’s not a great habit but hey – at least things are getting done!

3.  Share “10 Honest Things” about myself.

1.  I love playing with fonts and making little headers in my posts.  This probably causes some posts to load incredibly slow and I apologize…but I am addicted to free fonts!  The one I used above is called The Stamp Act.  So flippin’ cute!

2.  I am a perfectionist and I am trying to cure myself of this.  I hate not being satisfied with things when they are alright.  This goes for everything from my blog design (I have some big ideas) to the rooms in my home (I have some more big ideas) to planning activities for my kids (I have some big ideas).  I need to let go and enjoy more.

3.  I sometimes bite off more than I can chew.  This causes issues with the above perfectionism.  Sometimes things don’t get done because my ideas are too big.  Oftentimes I plan too much.  I am always stressed about completing something.

4.  I want to dress in very high style and I want to rock the latest looks but comfort is WAY too important to me.  In my dreams I swear to God I am dressed to the nines and I am very funky and fabulous.  I am also tiny and very sprite like in my dreams – every time – but that is another story.  In my real life I rock jeans and a t-shirt regularly.  In the winter that t-shirt has long sleeves and is paired with boots or my new clogs.  In the summer it is paired with flip flops.  On walks I put on tennis shoes.  Notice no heels.  I am going to work on this post baby.

5.  I knew very early in my life that I wanted to have a family and that I did not want to wait to do this.  I made a heart wrenching decision not to follow my Broadway dream and go straight through college and get a job because I knew that the chances of me finding love and settling down early while pounding the Manhattan pavement were slim.   I still sing and dance constantly and plan to be a community theater freak as soon as I am done being pregnant.  Still, sometimes I wonder….

6.  As much as I heart the Internet, books are my first love and they always will be.  I devour them.  I can’t get enough.  I am secretly angry when people in book club have not read the book.  I love the wine but I actually want to discuss.  Oh some would hate me if they knew…

7.  I miss the North and do not think I will ever fit in down here.   It really is different.   I miss my old girl friends every day.  I am only in North Carolina – it is not that far south.  And it is beautiful.  And there are great people.  It is just not the same.  I would love to be back in New York or Massachusetts.

8.  Cheese is far and away my favorite food.  All kinds.  Soft kinds, smelly kinds, goat kinds.  I love em.  Coupled with bread and wine I am in my own food heaven.

9.  I want to learn to make Jewelry.  I draw pictures of what I like and want but I have not yet made a piece.  It is a dream of mine to make what I imagine!

10.  I DVR whole seasons of shows to watch while I am breastfeeding in the middle of the night or whenever.  Second to actually meeting the baby – I am so pumped to watch all the shows you are watching now – in January!  Otherwise I never watch shows.  Due to my book and Internet addiction of course.

1.  A Southern Fairytale -  October is breast cancer awareness month and Rachel Blogged for Boobs  by posting stories of survival and loss, of grief and joy, of women who lived with, died with or kicked the ass of – breast cancer.  There is nothing more honest than this.  Please check out the site, read the stories, and take care of yourselves.  Do your regular breast self exams and get your mammograms!  If you are at a higher risk, like me, talk to your doctor about early testing and the possibility of getting the BCRA test.

2.  Her Bad Mother - Catherine makes me (and tons of other peeps, I know) laugh and cry and think and ponder and want a drink and oh – if you follow her on twitter and you are pregnant you will die because she is a coffee lover and reminds you every second of that sweet drink that you can’t have.  I still love her though.  She is one of my Bloggy Besties, even if she doesn’t really know me.

3.  Nine Months to Life – Sarah Caitlin is as honest as they come.  She is unexpectedly expecting her first and I thoroughly enjoy her posts.

4.  If Evolution Works – Nancy is… Fabulous.  Funny.  Honest.  A friend I wish lived down the block.  Her posts are usually shorter and fabulous and still poignant or gripping or hilarious – something I try at and fail at every time (I am already at 800 words here).

5.  Shanty 2 Chic - These DIY chicks rock my world!  Their projects are so great I have increased my to do list almost every time I visit their site!

6.  Bookish Penguin - Candice is a great bloggy friend and I LOVE having friends both IRL and online without kiddos.  Candice likes me even though I blog about my babies and well I honestly love that!  She also loves books like me and has a great sense of humour and wonderful writing style.

7. Momversation- I know this is not really a blog but a vlog by a group of brilliant and HUGE bloggers but I love it!  These chicas dish their real thoughts on a host of motherhood issues and provide food for thought – and for blogging each and very time.  It is honest and I love getting to see video of bloggers.   It makes me feel like I know them.

My Obsessions:

1. Current and ongoing for almost a decade – I am obsessed with genealogy.  I absolutely love it!  I have to watch the budget on this one because it can get expensive but like blogging, I have met people all over the world.  I am a research nut anyway so this is perfect for me.  Combining family, research and the Internet is a perfect HUGE TIME SUCKING hobby!
2. I am right now obsessed with figuring out how to design this blog.  Every week I have a new task for myself.  This week is the header.  It will be a tough one to meet.  Using WordPress one must design their own using Illustrator or Photoshop and I am literally learning these programs at a snail’s pace.  Wish me luck!
3. I am obsessed with building things.  You will see more of this as I launch my How-To’s section.  I built my daughter a platform storage bed, a 3 piece solid wood play kitchen, a cedar shed for outdoors, built in storage bench / locker for by the door and many other things.  I love it!  After this baby I am hoping to go to furniture making school in New England to get really good and maybe even make a career out of it.  Tools are my friends.  Another budget buster!
4. Since having kids, despite being 5’2″, I am obsessed with finding cute flats.  I LOVE ballet slippers in rainbows of colors.  However, let me clear, as a former hippie chickie I will always be in love with and obsessed with my Birkenstocks.   Even if they are ugly.
5. I have always been, and always will be, obsessed with books.  I average 1 per week and try to alternate between history, philosophy, fiction and flat out romance.  I will always love me some romance novel baby.  Books are my escape.  I have books all over my house.  They are my favorite thing to look at, to peruse and they are wonderful conversation starters.

♥  If Evolution Really Works…how come mothers only have two hands:  Nancy is a new Blogger and is very funny and insightful.  I like her style and her site and she is a web designer so maybe I can get some tips from her

♥  Fat Mum Slim:  Chantelle has great photos, great giveaways and a wonderful writing style.  She just celebrated her 1 year blogoversary!

♥  Six Feet Under:  Haha she has 3 kids!  Tess is funny and has 3 kids in 3 different age ranges.  Since mine will all be within 3 years of each other it is a whole new perspective for me.  And she has a teenage girl, which I am terrified of.  Maybe reading her blog posts about this experience will be like watching Discovery Health while you are pregnant…crazy and totally addictive!  Check her out!

♥  Land of Mama Grits: Kim is funny and reflective and truly grateful for each day of life.  She blogs about her family and her experiences and is hysterical to read.  She also writes about her beautiful daughter Emma, who she lost to Cockayne Syndrome before her 4th birthday.
